This initiative focuses especially on youth and women who seek practical skills that can quickly translate into employment or business ownership. Through hands-on instruction, mentorship, and real-world practice, participants gain the confidence and expertise needed to succeed in the fashion industry.

Participants receive structured training from experienced instructors in a supportive learning environment where both creativity and technical skill are developed.

What Participants Will Learn

Sewing Techniques and Garment Construction
Participants will learn how to operate sewing machines and other tailoring tools while mastering the fundamentals of garment construction. Training covers stitching techniques, seam finishing, hemming, and assembling different types of garments such as shirts, dresses, skirts, trousers, and traditional attire.

Pattern Drafting and Fabric Cutting
Students are taught how to measure clients accurately and translate measurements into patterns. They will learn pattern drafting, layout techniques, and fabric cutting methods that reduce waste and ensure proper garment fitting.

Fashion Design and Clothing Production
Participants explore creative design concepts and learn how to transform ideas into finished clothing. This includes sketching designs, selecting styles, understanding current fashion trends, and producing garments from concept to completion.

Fabric Selection and Finishing Techniques
Training includes understanding different fabric types, textures, and materials, and how to choose the right fabric for different garments. Participants also learn finishing techniques such as pressing, lining, trimming, and garment presentation to ensure professional-quality results.

Business Management and Entrepreneurship
Beyond technical skills, the program prepares participants to operate successful tailoring businesses. Training includes pricing services, customer service, marketing, managing finances, purchasing materials, and building a strong client base.

Practical Training Experience

Participants will complete hands-on projects throughout the program, allowing them to practice making real garments and develop their portfolios. They will also learn how to work with clients, take measurements, and deliver professionally finished clothing.

In some cases, trainees may participate in community exhibitions or fashion showcases where they can display their work and gain exposure for their skills.

Program Outcome

Upon completion of the program, graduates will have the technical knowledge, practical experience, and entrepreneurial skills needed to pursue opportunities in the fashion industry. They will be equipped to:

  • Start their own tailoring or fashion design businesses

  • Work in established fashion houses or garment production workshops

  • Offer professional tailoring services within their communities

  • Train others and contribute to local economic development

Through this program, the foundation seeks to empower individuals with after graduation and self reliance to continue promoting our graduate skills across the world,  sustainable skills that not only transform their lives but also strengthen families and communities—continuing the legacy of service and empowerment exemplified by Edidem Effiong Jimmy Iyawot.

Senior Care, Community Engagement & Empowerment

The Edidem Effiong Jimmy Iyawot Empowerment Foundation is deeply committed to supporting and honoring the aging men and women in our communities. Our elders are the pillars of our families and culture. They have spent their lives building the community we live in today, and the foundation believes they deserve respect, care, and joyful engagement in their later years.

Inspired by the servant leadership of Edidem Effiong Jimmy Iyawot, the foundation focuses on creating programs that bring dignity, connection, and meaningful activities to seniors across Afaha Abia, and neighboring communities in  Nsit Ibom and Akwa Ibom State.

Bringing Joy and Connection to Our Seniors

One of the foundation’s most important missions is to ensure that older adults remain socially connected and emotionally supported. Many seniors experience loneliness or isolation, especially in rural communities. Through engaging activities, the foundation helps them stay active, valued, and connected to the community.

Community Movie Nights and Social Events

The foundation organizes community movie nights and live social gatherings where seniors can relax, laugh, and spend time with friends and family. These events create moments of happiness and strengthen the bond between generations.

Celebrating Life and Achievements

The foundation believes every elder deserves to feel honored and appreciated. We regularly celebrate the birthdays and life accomplishments of our senior men and women.

These celebrations include:

  • Birthday gatherings

  • Community recognition events

  • Music, storytelling, and traditional food

  • Honoring elders who have served the community

These joyful moments remind our elders that their lives matter and that they are deeply valued by the community.

Preserving Traditional Skills

Many seniors carry important traditional knowledge that should never be lost. The foundation provides opportunities for elders to teach and share these valuable skills with younger generations.

Programs include:

  • Traditional homemade soap making

  • Local craft and household production

  • Cultural storytelling and heritage sharing

These activities preserve culture while also creating opportunities for small community businesses.

Training for Sustainable Livelihoods

The foundation also supports practical training programs that empower both seniors and younger members of the community with useful skills.

These include:

Fish Farming Training
Participants learn modern aquaculture techniques such as pond management, feeding systems, and harvesting fish for food and income.

Poultry Farming Training
This program teaches participants how to raise chickens for eggs and meat production while managing a small poultry business.
